Our story

We're Martijn and Bernadette, your hosts at Mudhouse Zululand.
Inspired by the beauty of the Greater Ukuwela Nature Reserve near Hluhluwe, we created Mudhouse as the kind of place we always hoped to find ourselves -a place where nature comes first, time slows down, and every stay feels genuinely different.
Home to just two private wilderness treetop hideaways, Mudhouse has been thoughtfully designed to offer complete privacy while blending naturally into the surrounding landscape. Here, guests can reconnect with nature and experience the peace and simplicity of off-grid living.
We look forward to welcoming you to our little corner of Zululand.

Mudhouse Zululand

Our earthbag home is a truly unique place, handcrafted from mostly natural materials and designed to live off-grid. More than just a home, it became a pioneering project that remains unlike anything else in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Treetop Hideaways

The two treetop hideaways were created to share the extraordinary place we call home. Here, nature sets the rhythm, wildlife roams freely, and we are all just guests.
